Levels to rise on Assiniboine as province releases more water at Shellmouth Dam

Levels are expected to rise as much as a metre on the Assiniboine River west of Winnipeg as the province releases more water from the Shellmouth Dam.

Low-lying properties, agricultural land between dam and St. Lazare could see flooding, province says

Levels are expected to rise on the Assiniboine River west of Winnipeg this week as the province releases more water from the Shellmouth Reservoir.

Last week, the province increased water flows at the Shellmouth Dam from 1,900 cubic feet per second (CFS) to 3,000 CFS to help lower rising levels at the reservoir.

The province will be increasing outflows again Tuesday by 500 CFS, which the Hydrologic Forecast Centre of Manitoba estimates will raise levels on the Assiniboine between two and three feet.

Low-lying properties and agricultural land along the river, from the reservoir south to St. Lazare, Man., could be affected by flooding, the province said.

Water is expected to crest between Brandon and the Shellmouth Dam in the first week of May.
