A man is wanted after officers responding to a report of gunfire found a man shot in the leg in a northern Manitoba city early Sunday, RCMP say.

Jonathan Boychuk, 37, is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police said in a news release.

A warrant for his arrest was issued after Thompson RCMP responded to a report of gunshots on Nickel Road shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday.

Officers found a 40-year-old man in a nearby home who had been shot in the leg, according to police. He was taken to hospital, and while his injury was serious it was not life-threatening.

Officers immediately began patrols and stopped a vehicle a short time later that had been stolen from the residence.

A man and woman who ran from the vehicle as an officer approached were arrested, police say.

The man, 35, has been charged with assault, robbery with a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime. The woman, 31, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and failing to comply with release conditions.
