A London-based baker has combined her bread baking skills with her passion for men's mental health to kickstart Movember conversations this month.

Muna Basahi is the owner of The Hearth Loaf, a micro-bakery that specializes in sourdough bread made from locally sourced flour. This Movember, Busahi created a unique, moustache-shaped sourdough loaf to raise awareness and money for the cause.

Movember is an annual campaign encouraging men to grow moustaches to raise awareness about men's health every November.

"For me as a baker, bread is something that you share with people," Basahi said. "You put it in the middle of the table, you break it apart. You eat. You start talking about things. So it felt like a good match."

Basahi's passion for Movember began during the pandemic when her two young sons were unable to attend school due to social distancing rules. She said the isolation led to heightened anxiety, particularly when restrictions were lifted and they were allowed to go back to school.

"My husband and I were mentally ready to go back, but they were not," she said. "That was a challenge, and that's what got me started really wanting to take care of them mentally."

Basahi said that bread is a symbol of community and she hopes that her efforts can start a conversation.

"Because the moustache is a great symbol of the movement I said, 'Why not just make it into a moustache,'" Basahi said. "And bring smiles to people's faces either when they see the bread or buy the bread."

Basahi said she updates her website with more bread every Sunday.
