What's the situation for London?
The Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) reported a record 135 new COVID-19 cases for the London area Monday. The seven-day average for new cases in the region is just over 98. There have been 380 case so far this year.
There are currently 816 known active cases in Middlesex London.
Two more deaths were reported Monday, including a man in his 60s from a long-term care home and a man in his 80s who was not connected to a seniors' facility.
There were 30 recoveries reported, with 816 ongoing cases across Middlesex-London. There have been 3,676 confirmed cases in the region since the pandemic began.
The majority of COVID-19 cases are in London, which makes up for 90 per cent of total infections.
How are long-term care homes managing?
COVID-19 cases at long-term care homes have more than doubled in Middlesex-London since the beginning of December when only a handful of new cases had been reported in the weeks previous.
According to the MLHU, there are 27 new cases at local long-term care facilities and three at retirement homes. So far this year, there's been 62 additional cases in long-term care, including 51 residents. There's been four cases at retirement homes.
There have been 10 deaths associated with long-term care in the last three weeks.
COVID-19 across the region and beyond
Southwestern Public Health, which includes Elgin-Oxford, reported 47 new cases of COVID-19 Monday. The region continues to be hit hard by the spread of the virus with 184 additional cases so far this year, along with one more death.
The highest number of cases in the region is in Aylmer (268), followed by St. Thomas (249) and Woodstock (231). There are now 401 known active cases in the Elgin-Oxford region.
Meanwhile, there were 3,270 new COVID-19 cases province-wide as the number of hospitalizations continues to climb. There are now 1,190 patients in hospital across Ontario, including 333 in intensive care. There are 194 people on ventilators.
