London, Ont., police investigate threats to tamper with student drinks at Fanshawe College
College said threats were posted on the social media platform Discord
Fanshawe College said it is working with police in London, Ont., to investigate sexually violent and threatening social media posts.
The college released a statement via Twitter late Wednesday afternoon that said the posts were initiated on the social media platform Discord and spread online.
The statement did not say when the posts were made or exactly what they said.
However, a message sent to Fanshawe Student Union staff on Wednesday said the union was aware of a social media post with "threats to potentially tamper with drinks" in The Out Back Shack student bar and Oasis cafeteria. Both are on campus and operated by the student union.
Fanshawe Student Union president Ricardo De Souza confirmed the message on Thursday in an email to CBC London.
"Fanshawe Security, Fanshawe Residence, the London Police and our FSU team are aware and investigating the situation," said De Souza. "We encourage students to remain diligent and alert in social settings to keep themselves and their friends safe online and in person."
