An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after being struck by a pick-up truck in Ingersoll, provincial police say.

Oxford County OPP were called to the collision on Thames Street South around 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Const. Rod LeClair said the woman was crossing the street walking westbound, when she was struck by a pick-up truck travelling southbound.

The 84-year-old woman sustained serious injuries. LeClair said the injuries were not life-threatening, but the woman was taken to hospital to be assessed as a precaution because of her age.

"The driver remained on scene. They are co-operating with police," LeClair said.

"It's too early in the investigation to say if there's charges applicable in this incident."

Thames Street South was closed between St. Andrew Street and Charles Street for several hours during the investigation. The road has since been reopened.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
