'She was kind,' says friend of woman killed in Sparta, where police found two people dead
Kyle Savage and Tanya Wiebe's bodies were found at a residence south of London on Wednesday morning
As Ontario Provincial Police in Elgin Country remain tight-lipped after the bodies of a man and woman were discovered earlier this week south of London, friends of Tanya Wiebe are speaking out about the kind and devoted mom.
"I want everyone to know she was a great mom. She was raising a great kid, and she was kind," said Jason Brown, who knew Wiebe through the tight-knit hockey community in southwestern Ontario.
Wiebe was found along with Kyle Savage, who she had been dating, in a home on Roberts Line in Sparta shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, friends tell CBC News. Neighbours said the home belonged to Savage, who mostly kept to himself.
Police have not confirmed the identities of the victims or explained any details about what may have occurred, saying the investigation is ongoing. They said this is an isolated incident and the public is not at risk.
"Regardless of the circumstances surrounding anyone's death, it's obviously detrimental and devastating to both family and friends and the surrounding communities as well," said Const. Brett Phair with Elgin OPP.
Wiebe had a 14-year-old son who played AAA hockey in Chatham. "Our hockey family is reeling from the sudden loss of one of our parent group," the Chatham Cyclones wrote in a social media post. "No words at this time could describe the love and support that is being sent to our player and his family."
Many of Wiebe's friends and family members changed their profile pictures to include the colour purple, a symbol of opposition to domestic violence.
"Her heart always was bursting with joy and laughter," wrote one friend on Facebook.
"The world is a darker place," wrote another. "Her calls and texts when I was fighting for my life against cancer always put a smile on my face and cheered me up and always said don't give up."
