Taxi driver turned busker plays downtown London

Bruce Patterson busks with the violin his grandfather bought from a pawn shop in Ingersoll in the early 1900s.

Bruce Patterson knows he's not a musical virtuoso.

But the 68 year old regularly plays his violin in downtown London anyway.

Patterson says one of his biggest regrets is "not staying with it." After putting down the violin his grandfather gave him at age 10, he picked it up again at age 40. He still plays the same instrument.

The self-taught musician made his living driving cabs and school vehicles but now in retirement, Patterson enjoys heading downtown with his violin.

"It's better than watching television. It gives me something to do. I can be out with the public, I can mix, I can have conversations. I enjoy it."

Patterson doesn't make much money busking, but regularly gives back to the people he meets downtown, "I buy them a Tim Horton's card here and there. If they're playing the guitar, I'll buy them a couple sets of guitar strings."
