London Morning's associate producer and music curator Ryan Soulliere looks back at 2024 and highlights five artists that got frequent plays in 2024.

Sunshine Makers

Sunshine Makers is the musical brainchild of London's Brent Jackson. In his early days, Jackson came up with the indie rock band The Junction. Now, he uses the skills and the friends he made to propel his latest venture, Sunshine Makers. Those friendships are key for the band's sound because most tracks feature guest vocalists, including the likes of Shad, and Odario Williams of Grand Analog. The music is funky, laid back and keeps a groove. Still in Love is a perfect tune that is not too fast, not too slow, and just laid back enough to relax.

The Pairs

Three lifelong friends came together to combine their voices and ideas, which sounds like a screenplay. But for The Pairs, it is reality. London Morning listeners might be familiar with this group, which formed around the same time that CBC London came to town. Since then , they have been a staple on London Morning, starting with songs from their debut EP Noise and ending with their latest releases. Their soaring harmonies and thought-provoking lyrics keep them on the London Morning airwaves. Superhuman is a very upbeat and energizing song that highlights the wonderful vocals of this group.

Ombiigizi

Ombiigizi is a collaboration project with London's Adam Sturgeon of Status/Non-Status and Zoon's Daniel Monkman. Together, they create an immersive sound akin to indie and psychedelic rock with catchy writing to make you lean in. Ombiigizi was recognized with a Juno award in 2023 for their first project, Sewn Back Together, and they continue to delight fans with their follow-up album, Shame. Back at You is a perfect indie rock jam featuring guest vocals by July Talk's Peter Dreimanis.

Thunder Queens

London has a punk scene with deep roots, and Thunder Queens are the latest addition to the fabric of that scene. The all female three-piece are young, ambitious and know how to craft incredible punk rock bangers. You can tell by their 11-song debut album Strike One that Thunder Queens have what it takes to keep a foothold in the music scene. This go-getting group followed up their debut album with a few banger singles, including an excellent cover of The Breeders CannonballRoadtrip is a perfect punk tune with a dash of power pop.

Jeremie Albino

Jeremie Albino writes great music. Since 2019, the former Toronto native has been cranking out catchy tunes with a heartfelt delivery that sparks emotion. Albino shows the depth of his writing, being at ease with slow songs that tug at the heartstrings and then switching to bangers that get your toes tapping, all while infusing the songs with his trademark twang. When Jeremie Albino drops a new single or album, London Morning is quick to play it for our listeners. Angeline is a perfect example of Albino's powerful vocals and writing prowess.
