28 people sent to hospital during Western's homecoming weekend
Police have not yet said how much it cost to patrol the street parties
First responders in London are calculating the cost of Western University's homecoming weekend, which saw thousands of students partying in the streets around campus.
Paramedics said Monday they responded to 76 calls for service over the course of 24 hours, with 28 people requiring a trip to the hospital.
Middlesex-London Paramedic Service (MLPS), which had a large mobile unit parked near the largest street party on Broughdale Avenue, said six people were taken to hospital in serious condition.
While they couldn't offer specifics, spokesperson Miranda Bothwell said injuries could include anything from being unconscious to bleeding to trauma.
The street parties did spill out onto Richmond Street forcing officers to close the major north-south artery for several hours Saturday. The London Police Service had help that day, with officers from the Hamilton and York Region services in the city to help control the crowds.
London police have not yet provided details on the number of arrests made or the cost of policing the event. In past years, the bills have been close to $300,000.
