2 deaths, 33 new COVID-19 cases in the London area Tuesday
A man in his 50s and another in his 80s have died with the virus
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting 33 new cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths on Tuesday.
A man in his 50s has died who was not vaccinated. A man in his 80s from a retirement home who was fully vaccinated has also died. The identity of the deceased is not released by the health unit.
The latest fatalities bring the death toll to 254 since the pandemic began. Since vaccines became available in Middlesex-London, just over 84 per cent of fatalities were unvaccinated. Eleven per cent of those who died were either partially vaccinated or within 14 days of receiving a shot and 4.5 per cent were fully vaccinated.
There were 14 recoveries posted on Tuesday, with 275 active cases in the community. the seven-day rolling average of daily cases is up to 33.
London Health Sciences Centre is reporting 14 patients being treated for COVID-related illnesses at local hospitals on Tuesday, up two from the previous day.
There are five or fewer adult patients in critical care, five or fewer with COVID-19 in the Children's Hospital and five or fewer patients in pediatric critical care, according to the hospital network.
Five or fewer staff members have tested positive for the virus and are isolating.
COVID-19 across the region and beyond
Southwestern Public Health reported 36 new COVID-19 cases and two additional deaths on Tuesday. There are 203 active cases in Elgin-Oxford. There are 12 patients being treated in hospital with the virus, including five in critical care.
Huron Perth Public Health posted 28 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with 76 ongoing infections in the region.
Meanwhile, Ontario reports 928 new COVID-19, along with nine additional deaths.
The seven-day rolling average for daily cases across the province is up to 975, a 23 per cent jump since last Tuesday.
