17 new COVID-19 cases in Middlesex-London on Friday, no deaths
There are 83 active cases in the region
Recent developments:
- Ontario is reporting 510 new COVID-19 cases and four additional deaths on Friday.
- 72 per cent of provincial cases were unvaccinated people, according to the Ministry of Health.
- The health unit has reversed its decision to expand vaccinations to 11-year-olds turning 12 before the end of the year.
- There are six patients being treated for COVID-19 in local hospitals.
What's the latest situation for the London area?
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting 17 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths on Friday. There hasn't been a COVID-related death reported since July 30.
Friday's case count comes after 391 people were tested at the Carling Heights assessment centre on Thursday, a positivity rate of 4.3 per cent. Provincially, the test positivity rate is at two per cent.
The majority of new cases were among people in their 20s, with eight positive results. The other cases include three people 19 or younger, three in their 30s, two in their 50s and one in their 70s.
The health unit posted 12 recoveries, with 83 known active cases in the region. The seven-day rolling average for daily cases is 11.
London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) says it is treating six patients with COVID-19-related illnesses. There are five or fewer patients in critical care.
Fewer than five staff members at LHSC have currently tested positive for the virus and are in quarantine.
MLHU reverses vaccination expansion to 11-year-olds
The health unit is reversing a decision to extend vaccinations to all those born in 2009 or earlier. The announcement made Thursday, would have seen an additional 2,000 children become eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination in the region.

The health unit has not said why the decision to roll back eligibility was made.
Here's where the pop-up vaccination clinics are
A pop-up clinic is available from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, at the Beacock Library, 1280 Huron Street.
There are two clinics available on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
- Bob Hayward YMCA, 1050 Hamilton Road.
- North London Athletic Fields, 1225 Adelaide Street North.
A pop-up will be available on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Boyle Memorial Community Centre, 530 Charlotte Street.

COVID-19 updates across the region
Southwestern Public Health reported six new COVID-19 cases on Friday and no new deaths. There are currently 27 known ongoing cases in Elgin-Oxford.
Huron Perth Public Heath posted two new cases on Friday and no new deaths. There are 15 known active cases in the health region.
