What's the situation in Middlesex-London?
The Middlesex London Health Unit posted 46 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, along with 22 additional screened variants of concern. The region moved to the red zone of the province's COVID-19 response framework, which means tighter restrictions are now in place on gatherings and local businesses.
A man in his 80s with COVID-19 has died. He was not associated with a seniors' facility. There have now been four COVID-related deaths in the region in March.
The health unit reported 33 recoveries Tuesday, with the number of known active cases in the region up to 444.
London Health Sciences Centre is reporting 15 cases among patients, including five or fewer in critical care. There are currently seven staff members who have tested postive for the virus.
What's the situation at schools?
There are five additional cases of COVID-19 being reported at area schools, including three in elementary and two in secondary schools.
There are now 17 active cases across 13 schools in Middlesex-London.
An outbreak has been declared at Riverbend Academy in Middlesex Centre, where there are two cases. An outbreak declared at Woodland Heights Public School in London remains active with two infections.
Previous outbreaks declared at three Western University residences remain active.
COVID-19 across the region and beyond
Southwestern Public Health posted 12 new cases of COVID-19, a significant drop from the 56 that were reported Monday. There were no additional deaths in Elgin-Oxford. The number of ongoing cases is up to 84, with 23 in St. Thomas and 17 in Woodstock.
Huron Perth Public Health posted two COVID-19 cases Tuesday, including one in West Perth and another in Bluewater. There are 11 known active cases in the region.
Meanwhile, there were 2,336 new cases across Ontario, along with 14 more deaths.
There are now 410 patients in Ontario intensive care units with COVID-19. According to Critical Care Services Ontario, there were 46 people who were admitted into critical care in the last day.
