The iconic City of Waterloo sign that welcomes people across the border from Kitchener to Waterloo has been returned to its rightful home on King Street W.

The sign was removed in 2015 during the Ion construction along the King Street LRT route and moved to an undisclosed location for safekeeping.

A the time, City of Waterloo staff tweeted that they were "not at liberty to disclose its highly confidential location, but rest assured it's in a safe place."

The sign was reinstalled just after noon on Thursday.

It's now in a slightly different location, no longer in the shadow of a hydro pole — something residents had said they hoped would change when it was returned.
