Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says they're investigating another sexual assault involving a member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service.

The report was made on Sunday, according to a spokesperson for the SIU.

"Waterloo Regional Police Service contacted the SIU to inform about an alleged incident that occurred earlier that day," Monica Hudon, communications coordinator of the SIU, said in an email message.

An SIU investigation is triggered when someone is seriously injured, alleges sexual assault or dies when involved with the police.

She says investigators have been assigned to the case.

Waterloo Regional Police Service have yet to provide comment on the allegations brought to the SIU on Sunday.

SIU charged 3 WRPS officers with sexual assault in 2018

Meanwhile, a verdict is pending in the sexual assault trial for another Waterloo regional police officer.

Const. Eric Schnarr has been charged with one count of sexual assault. His four-day trial concluded on Feb. 28. A verdict in that case is expected on March 27.

According to a recent WRPS Police Services Board report, in 2018, the SIU charged three WRPS officers with separate sexual assault offences.

In one of those three cases, charges against the officer were dropped. In August 2018, the Crown said they had considered all evidence in that case, and there was "no prospect of conviction."
