Sex assault allegations against WRPS member made during impaired driving investigation, police say
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit recently began investigating another sexual assault allegation involving a member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service.
The report was made on Sunday, according to a spokesperson for the SIU.
On Wednesday afternoon, Waterloo regional police said the allegation involved an incident with a "suspected impaired driver in the Township of Wellesley."
Police said the allegation involved an incident that happened at 11:11 a.m. on Sunday.
"During this investigation, an allegation of sexual assault was made. This allegation prompted WRPS to notify the Special Investigations Unit, which has invoked their mandate," said Mark Crowell with WRPS in an email.
An SIU investigation is triggered when someone is seriously injured, alleges sexual assault or dies when involved with the police.
"As required by law, any allegation of sexual assault or incident involving serious injury must be reported to the SIU. No further information can be provided by the Waterloo Regional Police Service at this time," Crowell said.
