Here's what's open and closed between now and Jan. 2 in Waterloo region

With statutory holidays including Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day over the next two weeks. some local offices and businesses will see their hours altered between now and Jan. 2.

Banks, local businesses may also alter hours for the holidays

With statutory holidays including Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day over the next two weeks, some local offices and businesses will see their hours altered between now and Jan. 2.

There will be no curbside waste collection on December 25 and January 1. During these two weeks, some collection days move by one day: 

  • Wednesday will be collected on Thursday.
  • Thursday will be collected on Friday.
  • Friday will be collected on Saturday.

For two weeks after Christmas Day, the region will collect natural Christmas trees, which are chipped for mulch.

Cambridge and Waterloo waste transfer stations will be closed for residential access on December 25, 26 and January 1. 

Grand River Transit will operate winter holiday service December 23 to January 5.

Regional administration offices will be closed Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.

Warming spaces at 150 Main (Cambridge) and 150 Frederick (Kitchener) will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., including Saturday, Sundays, and holidays. 

Region of Waterloo Library branches will be open until 2 p.m. on Dec. 24, then closed Dec. 25 and 26. They will be open until 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 and closed Jan. 1.

Public Health Clinics will be closed Dec. 25 and 26 and Jan. 1. 

Schneider Haus will be closed Dec. 24 to 26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. 

Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum will be closed Dec. 24 to 26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. 

McDougall Cottage Historic Site is closed for the season and will re-open on Family Day. 

Cambridge

City hall closes at 12 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remains closed until Jan. 2.

Cambridge Centre for the Arts will close at 12 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remain closed until Jan. 2.

Cambridge Public Library is closed Dec. 24 to 26. Branches will close at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will remain closed on Jan. 1.

Community centres Ted Wake, David Durward, William E. Pautler and Allan Reuter: Close at 12 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remain closed until Jan. 2.

W.G. Johnson Centre pool hours:

  • December 24: 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • December 25 – 26: Closed.
  • December 31: 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • January 1: Closed.

John Dolson Centre pool hours:

  • December 24: 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • December 25 – 26: Closed.
  • December 31: 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • January 1: Closed.

Arenas including Duncan McIntosh, Dickson Centre, Galt, Karl Homuth and Hespeler Memorial:

  • Closed Dec. 24 to 26.
  • Closed Dec. 31 (except Karl Homuth, which is open until 11 a.m. and Hespeler Memorial which is open until 10 p.m.)
  • Closed Jan. 1.

Kitchener

City hall closes at 12 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remains closed on Dec. 26 and 26. It will close at 12 p.m. on Dec. 31 and remains closed Jan. 1.

Skating rink in front of city hall is daily open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., weather dependent, however there are reduced hours:

  • Dec. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Dec. 26 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. (for special New Year's Eve programming)
  • Jan. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kitchener Public Library is open until 1 p.m. on Dec. 24, closed Dec. 25 and 26, open until 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 and closed Jan. 1.

Kitchener Market is closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The food hall will open on Dec. 26 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with limited vendors. The market will run on Dec. 28 and Jan. 4.

Community centres will be open until 12 p.m. on Dec. 24, closed Dec. 25 and 26, open until 12 p.m. on Dec. 31 and closed Jan. 1.

The Aud will close at 11 a.m. on Dec. 24, be closed Dec. 25 and 26, parts of the building will be open until 11 a.m. on Dec. 31 then all rinks are closed on Jan. 1.

All city-run pools will be closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1 except for Breuitaupt Centre Pool.

Breithaupt Centre's pool hours are: 

  • Open 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dec. 24.
  • Closed Dec. 25.
  • Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 26.
  • Open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 27.
  • Closed Jan. 1.

Activa and Sportsworld arenas:

  • Dec. 24: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Closed Dec. 25 and 26.
  • Dec. 31: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Closed Jan. 1.

Other arenas including Don McLaren, Grand River and Lions Arena are closed Dec. 24 to 26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Waterloo

City hall closes as 12 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remains closed until Jan. 2.

Skating rink in Waterloo Public Square closes at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and is closed Dec. 25.

Waterloo Public Library branches will close at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 24, then will be closed Dec. 25 and 26. The branches will be open until 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 and closed on Jan. 1.

Albert McCormick Community Centre and RIM Park: 

  • Closes at noon on Tuesday, closed Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Closes at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and remains closed on Jan. 1.

Bechtel Park Manulife Soccer and Sports Centre, Moses Springer Community Centre: 

  • Closed Dec. 24 to 26.
  • Closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex and Swimplex:

Swimplex closes at 11:45 a.m., building closes at 12 p.m. on Dec. 24.

  • Closed Dec. 25 and 26.
  • Swimplex closes at 1 p.m., building closes at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31.
  • Closed Jan. 1.
