Police are investigating a shooting in the area of Paulander Drive and Victoria Street in Kitchener Tuesday morning. A 21-year-old woman was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A 21-year-old woman was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries after a shooting in Kitchener early Tuesday morning.

Waterloo regional police said the shooting took place in the area of Paulander Drive and Victoria Street at around 2:30 a.m.

 A group of people were gathered outside a residence when two males approached and shots were fired.

The two males fled on Paulander Drive toward Lawrence Avenue in a dark-coloured SUV.

Police believe it was a targeted shooting.

There will be an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

It was not immediately known if the shooting was related to another altercation in the same area on Sunday at 12:25 p.m.

Officers were called after two men got into a physical altercation, although there were not reported injuries, police said.

A 41-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats. Police did not say what weapon was used.

A young person fled the scene before police arrived. That investigation is also ongoing.
