The Grand River Conservation Authority is warning people not to climb barrier fences in the Elora Gorge park after a woman was injured on Sunday afternoon.

"We had an incident on the weekend where an individual climbed past some barrier fencing and apparently lost their footing and fell into the gorge, with minor injuries sustained from what we understand," said Cam Linwood, a spokesman for the GRCA.

It was the second time a person was rescued from the Gorge over the weekend, though Linwood said that the man who was injured on Saturday had been outside the park boundaries.

"We certainly want people both inside the park and outside the park to stay well back from the edge," Linwood said.

He said there are a few incidents every year where people go exploring beyond warning barriers and signs in the park and then get into trouble.

"The weather usually at this time of year is quite conducive to going outside and exploring. Also, at the same time, at this time of year the river level tends be a little bit lower than normal. So people would like to get down a little bit closer and they may not be aware of the dangers that exist ," he said.

Linwood said that if someone is injured in the park, they should call 911.
