Hiker suffers cut, shoulder injury after 12-metre tumble at Webster Falls
Conservation authority says waterfall and escarpment areas remain closed
Fire officials say a hiker escaped with a cut and a shoulder injury after falling an estimated 12 metres at Webster Falls.
Emergency crews were called to the Spencer Gorge Conservation Area Saturday following reports a man hiking with a small group had fallen, according to the Hamilton Fire Department.
The man suffered "a minor laceration and a shoulder injury," stated an email from the department.
He was located with the help of police and members of the rope rescue team rappelled down to administer first aid.
A rope system was set up and the man was hauled to safety in a basket, says the department.
He was then handed over to the paramedics. Fire officials say bylaw officers were also asked to attend at the scene.
A visitor alert on the Hamilton Conservation Authority's website warns all waterfall and escarpment areas are closed to visitors and anyone parked in residential areas nearby will face a $250 ticket.
