A man shot at someone several times without injuring the person on Monday night on Emerald Street South, near Hunter Street East, in Hamilton's Stinson neighbourhood, police say.

Police went to the scene around 10 p.m. and couldn't find the suspect, who was reported to have left the scene in a vehicle. Police did not describe the vehicle.

"At least one" suspect shot at a victim "a number of times," police said in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon. Police don't know if the suspect was inside or out of a vehicle when the shooting happened. But they said they think the victim was "targeted."

There have been at least five incidents of gunfire in Hamilton in the last week.

Mobster Ang Musitano was shot and killed a week ago Tuesday in Waterdown. There was gunfire for the second time in three weeks on in the North End last Wednesday. A man in his 20s was shot in the east end on Saturday. This shooting took place on Monday. And a man was in critical condition Tuesday after being shot in northeast Hamilton.

Police are still investigating the Emerald St. incident and Det. Const. David Tsuchida hopes to talk with anyone who has information or who witnessed the shooting.

Detectives also ask anyone with security video cameras near that intersection to look at tapes in case they have any footage of suspicious people or the vehicle.
