Police lay another stunt driving charge on the Red Hill Valley Parkway
Police have charged a Toronto man with stunt driving after they say he drove 151 km/h on the Red Hill Valley Parkway.
It happened just after 1 a.m. on March 15. A police officer was doing routine enforcement around Greenhill Avenue when he saw an SUV going at an "extremely high rate of speed," Hamilton Police say in a media release.
Police say the vehicle was going 151 km/h. The speed limit is 90 km/h.
A 28-year-old man is charged with stunt driving. His vehicle was seized and towed, and is impounded for seven days.
Police have been focusing more on the Red Hill and Lincoln Alexander Parkways lately since city hall officials have put an increased focus on the safety of the roadways.
A recent report by a consultant, for example, shows that more than 500 drivers per day travel faster than 140 km/h on the road.
Police said earlier this year they would tackle the issue with continued enforcement blitzes. City council has also asked the province's permission to look at installing photo radar.
The city is also spending $810,000 on short-term fixes to make the highways safer. The consultant has recommended $4,395,200 in long-term safety measures on the Red Hill and $5,966,090 on the Linc.
Last month, police also charged a Hamilton teenager with driving 147 km/h on the Red Hill Valley Parkway.
