A local teen has been charged after being caught travelling 57km/h over the speed limit on the Red Hill Valley Parkway.

Police say the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Friday, when officers were conducting a standard speed limit enforcement. A silver SUV vehicle was observed traveling northbound on the Parkway at a speed of 147km/hr, 57km/h over the posted speed limit of 90km/h.

Police have charged a 19-year old Hamilton male with speeding and stunt driving. His license was seized and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

Issues with speeding on the Red Hill Valley Parkway have been a long-running issue. A recent city report showed that over 500 drivers a day travel faster than 140 km/h, despite the posted speed limit.
