The Toronto Blue Jays played their first playoff game in 22 years Thursday afternoon and no one was watching more closely than seven-year-old Roan Heck of Stettler, Alta.

Five years ago Roan lost his left leg in a lawn-mowing accident; an accident his mom says didn't slow him down.

He was fitted with a prosthetic leg.

When Roan joined the rest of his family in supporting the Jays, he had his newest leg painted with a Blue Jays logo to show off the team colours.

Roan and his family went to Seattle to catch the Jays series against the Mariners this summer. The family arrived at the stadium early in the hope of cadging a few of the Jays' autographs.

"His friends who were with him thought it would be a good idea to take off the leg and show it to the Blue Jays," said Roan's mother Jolene Heck.

Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnación signed the leg, then asked if he could take it for a few minutes, Heck said.

"Roan was left standing there thinking, 'What the heck is he doing with my leg? Is he going to bring it back?' " Heck said. "A few minutes later, he brought it back up with autographs on it. He took it into the dugout and had the whole team sign it."

Her son was "one happy fan" when he saw all the autographs. "He pretty much has a one-of-a-kind leg," his mother said.

Roan took it all in stride. "It was pretty cool," he recalled.

Roan was ecstatic when the Jays won their division this season.

Prior to Thursday's Jays series opener with the Texas Rangers,  Roan predicted:  "I think they'll do pretty good and maybe even win the game."
