Born on July 30th the pandas make their way outside for the first time

A trio of newborn red pandas have made their debut at the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

The tiny bundles of fur have been tucked away in a nesting box since their birth, but ventured out into public view for the first time on Monday.

All three are thriving and getting more active each day, and have taken to climbing and rough housing around their new enclosure.

The zoo experienced a bit of a red panda 'baby boom' this past Summer.

Tango, a male, was born to parents Rina and Kalden on July 30.

Tango was named by Rowen, Janaya, and Alexa Miyashita, who submitted the name as part of the Edmonton Valley Zoo's red panda naming contest in the fall.

A set of twin cubs, which have yet to be named, were born to parents Pip and Kalden on August 23.

Zoo officials say the birth of the pandas came as welcome news to conservationists.

Red pandas are considered endangered and populations continue to decline. Native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China, fewer than 10,000 adults are living in the wild.
