Temporarily stop washing laundry, watering lawn: Edmonton utility

Edmonton residents are being asked to cut non-essential water use, which includes car washing, lawn and garden watering, laundry and filling hot tubs.

Edmonton residentsare being asked to temporarilycut non-essential water use, which includes car washing, lawn and garden watering, laundry and filling hot tubs.

EPCOR is making the request because of work the utility is doing on its E.L. Smith water-treatment plant. The workwill increase the water supply in Edmonton by 25 per cent.

The next stage of the upgrade means a temporary shutdown of the E.L. Smith facility. That means the Rossdale plant has to handle all of Edmonton's water needs while this phase of the work is done.

EPCOR is asking people to reduce their water use Wednesday and Thursday, and then again onSept. 27 and Sept. 28.
