The gown worn by Princess Diana to her wedding in 1981 is part of an exhibit that starts this weekend at West Edmonton Mall.

The ivory gown, complete with a 25-foot-train, caused a sensation when Diana, then just 20, stepped out of her carriage in front of St. Paul’s Cathedral as millions watched all over the world.

Today the dress is part of the exhibit, Diana, A Celebration, which includes personal belongings and designer dresses belonging to the princess, who died in 1997.

"It is the most famous wedding dress in the world and just what it means to people and what she meant to people," said handler Nick Grossmark after the dress was uncrated for the media on Wednesday.

"I just think the whole thing is kind of steeped in history and the love that people had for her."
