Pendant containing child's ashes returned to family
Cross-shaped pendant returned to police by citizen who wishes to remain anonymous
A stolen pendant containing the ashes of Dawson Pentecost, a young boy killed in a plane crash, has been returned to the family, say Edmonton police.
Nine-year-old Dawson was killed in February 2013 when the Cessna he was in went down in a field in southwest Manitoba.

After the funeral, Dawson’s ashes were divided among a set of matching cross-shaped pendants, one for each person in his immediate family. His mother, Crystal Pentecost, said the stolen cross had been hanging in the family truck since May.
The Pentecost family, originally from Waskada, Man., had been living in the Edmonton area for about two weeks when their truck was broken into and the pendant taken on July 18.
The family made an emotional plea for the pendant’s return.
"It was like losing him again, for me … because I don’t know where it is," Crystal Pentecost told reporters on July 22.
Just one day later, the pendant was turned in by a citizen who wished to remain anonymous, said police.
Officers then returned the pendant, which they say was damaged, to the Pentecost family on Sunday.
An Edmonton funeral home has since offered to replace the pendant at no cost to the family.
Police said the Pentecosts are thankful to have the pendant back, but have asked for privacy.
