Country music fans, rejoice — Keith Urban is the first major musician announced to play at Rogers Place arena.

The four-time Grammy award-winning singer will perform at Edmonton's new arena on Sept. 16 as part of his world tour.

This is the first concert announcement for the venue, which is expected to open in September. Tickets go on sale for the show on May 6 at 10 a.m.

Currently under construction, the construction company behind the project said in January the arena is on schedule to open on time.

The arena is being built to accommodate large and complex performances. The venue can rig up to 200,000 lbs., the largest hanging capacity of any venue in Canada.

The arena is also designed to host smaller, intimate shows with a smaller stage configuration.

A public open house will be held on Sept. 10, at which time Edmontonians will be able to see the finished venue firsthand.
