Here are some of the festivals happening in and around Edmonton during August
Festival season is in full swing with Heritage Festival to Cariwest
Edmonton Heritage Festival
The August long weekend is here and that means Heritage Festival is back.
With Hawrelak Park still closed for renovations, the festival will once again be held at Borden Park and the Edmonton Exhibition Lands.
The three-day celebration of multiculturalism features 69 pavilions from countries all over the world with communities sharing their history, song, dance and food with curious Edmontonians.
"We also have newcomers pavilion, which is partnered with the Newcomer Centre, and participating in that pavilion is Myanmar," said executive director Robert Rohatyn in an interview with CBC's Radio Active.
The festival runs from Saturday noon until 9 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
CBC Edmonton will have a booth at the festival between the Iran and Ukraine pavilions.
Visitors can catch a livestream of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 while at the booth.
Big Valley Jamboree
The 31st annual Big Valley Jamboree festival is in full swing in Camrose, Alta.
Camrose will be graced by country stars, old and new, as they take the stage for a laid back celebration. Visitors can lean into the Canadiana with a lumberjack show and bull riding.
"We turn into our own little city," said Megan Benoit, digital manager with Big Valley Jamboree.
"We've got a marketplace and Main Street and five different stages ... That's a little hard to understand unless you really do experience it. I know we'll have some newcomers, as well as people that have been coming for 30 years."
The festival ends Monday and features star-studded performances from Keith Urban and Lainey Wilson.
Edmonton Folk Festival
Fans flocking to Gallagher Park for the 45th annual Edmonton Folk Music Festival will enjoy a jam-packed lineup.
Music fans eager to lay down their tarps for a coveted spot on the hill will enjoy acts including Ben Howard, KT Tunstall, Black Pumas, Good Lovelies, Robert Finley and Rhiannon Giddens.
The 2024 lineup also features Rose Cousins, Eric Bibb with Michael Jerome Browne, Alpha Yaya Diallo, Pharis and Jason Romero and Blue Rodeo.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss will close this year's festival, which runs from Thursday, Aug. 8, through to Sunday, Aug. 11.
While weekend tickets for the much-loved music festival are sold out, free admission is being offered to Jasper residents following the devastating wildfire which damaged about 30 per cent of the town.
Free admission will be for opening night on Aug. 8.
Cariwest Caribbean Arts Festival
Edmonton's annual celebration of Caribbean arts, music, and culture, brings the party to Churchill Square for its 40th anniversary.
The festival runs from Aug 9. to Aug. 11.
The three-day event includes a costume extravaganza on Friday night and the signature parade on Saturday.
The weekend will feature live entertainment, Caribbean cuisine and a marketplace.
