Edmonton used car dealer arrested for fraud
'Those who ignore the law are considered curbers,' says president of Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council
An Edmonton used car dealer with a troubled history has been arrested and charged with fraud.
Dennis Feldman was arrested last week for breaching a court order obtained by the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council.
In November 2015, a Court of Queen's Bench justice ordered Feldman, owner of Miks Motors Inc., to immediately stop operating in the automotive industry.
That court order was issued just months after AMVIC cancelled the company's business licence for operating contrary to Fair Trading Act regulations.
"It is against the law to sell vehicles in Alberta without the proper AMVIC licence," John Bachinski, president and CEO of AMVIC, said in a statement. "Those who ignore the law are considered curbers and AMVIC is leading a province-wide campaign against curbers."
The council began its investigation of Miks Motors in May 2014 after it received a complaint from another local dealership.
Miks was allegedly advertising stock it didn't own, and was creating ads with images poached from competitors.
Feldman is scheduled to appear in court next week.
