Schools in Edmonton are preparing to make room for young students evacuated from Fort McMurray.

Some students have already registered at public schools in north Edmonton, said spokesperson Raquel Maurier, though she didn't have exact numbers.

She said the school board will make it easy for parents to register their children in Edmonton, either by going to the board website or by going directly to a school.

"Just go to the neighbourhood school that they're in, tell them they're from Fort McMurray and they want to register their child," she said.

"We're here to help them and support them in any way, and their children are welcome at any Edmonton public school."

Edmonton Catholic Schools are also accepting all students from Fort McMurray who want to register.

Families with students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 should call One World...One Centre at 780 944-2001, while high school students should call Sacred Heart Centre at 780 944-2000 for registration.
