Edmonton school trustees favour Wi-Fi plan

The Edmonton School Board will not stop installing wireless networks in classrooms despite the protests of parents at George P. Nicholson Elementary School.

Some parents pleaded with trustees Tuesday night to delay installing Wi-Fi until the technology is guaranteed safe. 

The parents are worried exposure to the low-level radiation could harm their children.

But trustees think the board should rely on safety standards set by Health Canada and the World Health Organization, which have declared the technology safe.

Trustees also spoke in support of wireless technology as an educational tool.

The board will declare its official position at the next meeting Jan. 25.
