Edmonton's Rogers Place open to public tours Sept. 10
'Tens of thousands' expected to attend open house at new arena
Tickets will be made available Aug. 29 for public tours of the completed Rogers Place downtown arena on Sept. 10, the City of Edmonton and the Oilers Entertainment Group announced Monday.
The free Sept. 10 event will come before any concerts or hockey games, giving people an opportunity to see the public areas of the $480-million facility.
"So much effort has gone into making sure every detail gives people the best experience possible, and this is a great opportunity to get an up-close and personal look at our city's new arena," Rick Daviss, executive director of the downtown arena project for City of Edmonton, said in a news release.
"This is the start of a new day for our downtown and we are really excited to share the upsurge in energy that Rogers Place will bring."
Susan Darrington, Rogers Place general manager, said staff "are thrilled to welcome the public to the building for the first time. This open house will be the first of many 'I Remember Moments' that our community will be celebrating for decades to come and we hope to create an amazing experience for all."
Ticket demand for the open house is expected to be high. The news release said "tens of thousands of interested people" may want to attend.
Links to secure tickets will be released through the edmonton.ca/rogersplace website on Aug. 29.
Attendees will be required to book a scheduled arrival/entrance slot between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Guests will get a souvenir booklet for a self-guided tour lasting 60 to 90 minutes.
Other open houses have been held at Rogers Place during the construction.
