Edmonton police seize date rape drug
Edmonton police have made their biggest seizure of date-rape drug in the province's history.
Police were searching a property Friday at 121 Street and Jasper Avenue when they found four litres of Gamma Hydroxybutyric (GHB), 300 pieces of stolen identification, blank credit cards and a credit card making machine.
The date-rape drug is often used by people looking for a recreational "high," said police.
The drug is odorless and colourless with a soapy or salty taste. It comes as a white powder or a clear syrupy liquid and has a similar effect as drinking a large quantity of alcohol.
The street value of the seizure is about $16,000.
Police said the ID was stolen from vehicles over the past three months.
A 35-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both from Edmonton, face numerous charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking.
