The Edmonton Police Service is exploring its options around establishing a presence in the arena district, says Chief Rod Knecht.

"We hope to have a store-front operation there in some capacity," he told reporters Wednesday.
"If you have a 100,000 Edmontonians in a very confined area, they should have accessibility to their police service."
EPS is speaking with people in the public and private sectors and in various levels of government about the initiative, he said.
Knecht said he's hoping the cost will not come out of the EPS budget.
Rogers Place arena is scheduled to open Sept. 10.
