The Edmonton Oilers are looking for more than just wins in the upcoming 2014-2015 season — they're also looking for a new goal song.

The Oilers are asking fans to suggest a new song to play whenever the team scores a goal.

"When Rexall Place is alive you physically feel the building rocking," said Tim Shipton, vice president of communications for the Oilers.

"What we want from the goal song is something reflective of that mood and that excitement."

The team launched its search for a new song on September 21. They've already received more than 2,000 suggestions, most from Edmonton fans but some from across Canada and as far away as France.

The team's current song is the fast-paced, dance tune by Pitbull, Don't Stop The Party. Shipton says the team decided it was time to change things up, again.

"Definitely this has been a hot topic with our fans,” he said.

Oilers fan Maurice Downey's suggestion is Who Let The Dogs Out, by Baha Men.

"Oilers score… who let 'em loose? The young guys," Downey said.

Others prefer the classic Queen ballad, We Are The Champions, with the hope the song signals the return of their beloved Oilers to the top of the NHL.

"They're champs, keeps them going," said Sharon Sendecki outside the Oilers store in Kingsway Garden Mall in Edmonton.

"Gives them incentive to become champs once again," added Barb Reimer.

"I think each player should pick their own song when they score a goal,” said Chris Mak. “If Taylor Hall wants to hear the Backstreet Boys when he scores, I think they should play the Backstreet Boys.”

New season, new excitement

This is the third time in the last three seasons the Oilers are mixing things up in the DJ booth.

"Our hockey club has undergone some pretty exciting changes," said Shipman.

"I think what it is...just really trying to find that right music and that right song that fits with the character of the team."

"It's certainly not going to hurt," Shipton said of whether a new vibe inside Rexall Place will net more goals for the Oilers this season.

The new song will be unveiled by the Oilers on October 9 when they play the Calgary Flames at Rexall.
