Edmonton MP Peter Goldring won't run in next election
Peter Goldring, the long-time Conservative Edmonton MP, has announced that he will not run in next year’s federal election.
“It’s been a long journey. I think that it’s time now for me to pass the torch,” he said on Monday.
Goldring told reporters he is quitting so he can spend more time with his family. He will continue as MP for Edmonton East until the next federal election is over.
Goldring was first elected as a Reform Party MP in June 1997.
He voluntarily withdrew from the Conservative caucus in December 2011 after he was charged with refusing to give a breathalyzer sample
He was invited back into the caucus in June 2013 after he was acquitted of the charge.
Goldring is the latest Edmonton-area MP to announce he isn’t running again. Edmonton-Centre MP Laurie Hawn is also retiring from federal politics after the next election.
