Edmonton military wives sing on Bryan Adams-penned charity song

A new charity song co-written by rock star Bryan Adams doesn’t just pay tribute to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry — the singers are the Edmonton-based wives of the soldiers.

“A lot of the words in the song really strike home for us,” said Capt. Nancy Mandaher, one of the performers of “Ric-A -Dam-Doo.”

Mandaher, a nurse with 22 years service in the Canadian Forces, was part of a group of women who worked with Adams last year at the Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton.

Her husband, Maj. Harpal Mandaher, served in Afghanistan and Croatia.

The song was written by Adams and his songwriting partner Jim Vallance to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the PPCLI.  Proceeds will support active and ex-military personnel.

“None of us really had any experience singing," Mandaher said. "I think there was a couple people but overall It came together really nicely,"

“Ric-A-Dam-Doo” reportedly is the Gaelic term for “cloth of your mother” and refers to the colours on the regimental flag.
