Early morning shooting leaves one man dead, police searching for minivan

Police say the shooting happened at around 7:30 a.m. near 171st Avenue and 126th Street in northwest Edmonton. When they arrived, officers found a man with gunshot wounds.

The medical examiner has removed the body of a man killed in a shooting early Friday morning in northwest Edmonton.

The man with gunshot wounds was found lying beside a pick-up truck parked near 171st Avenue and 126th Street.

Neighbours called police after hearing gunfire around 7:30 a.m. One man, who would not give CBC News his name, said his wife heard a woman screaming around the time of the shooting.

When officers arrived, they performed CPR on the man, but he was declared dead at the scene. 

Police say witnesses saw a blue minivan or SUV fleeing the area and are asking anyone with information to come forward. 

If confirmed, this would be Edmonton's 35th homicide of 2016.
