CN train carrying crude oil derails east of Whitecourt

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is investigating after CN train derailed east of Whitecourt, Alta. around 6:00 Friday morning.

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is investigating after a CN train derailed east of Whitecourt, Alta., around 6 a.m. Friday morning.

CN spokesperson Emily Hamer said five cars derailed, two of which were carrying crude oil.

Hamer said the cars are “intact” but that there is slight seepage from the valve of one of the cars. A response team is currently dealing with the situation.

The three other cars were carrying paper and forest products.

There was no fire or injuries reported in the derailment.

TSB has sent one investigator to the site, who will be arriving around noon.
