Alberta's impaired driving rate is 70 per cent higher than the national average, according to new figures from Statistics Canada.

The number of impaired driving incidents in the province was 450 per 100,000 population in 2011 compared to the national rate of 262 per 100,000 population.
The statistics also show that the province's 81 per cent conviction rate is below the national average of 84 per cent.
