Alberta government planes listed for sale
$11M price tag for fleet of four aircraft
The Alberta government air fleet that landed former premier Alison Redford in hot water is now up for sale.
The province has listed the four planes valued at $11 million on its website.
The planes range in value from the most expensive, a DeHavilland Dash 8 pegged at $5.5 million, to the least, a 1997 Beechcraft King Air 350 priced to sell at $1.5 million.
A pair of 2006 Beechcraft King Air B200s are listed at $2 million each.
Bidding on the planes which are parked in a hangar at the Edmonton International Airport closes Feb. 24th.
"We're pretty confident we're going to be able to get our reserve price," said Service Alberta spokesperson Eldon McIlwain.
Selling the planes was Jim Prentice's first decision after he was sworn in as Alberta premier in September.
The planes played a significant role in the unravelling of Redford's leadership.
The province’s auditor general was sharply critical of Redford's use of the planes which involved booking false passengers on flights and gaining "personal benefit" by taking her daughter on dozens of government flights.
Ministers will now be expected to fly on commercial flights or use charter planes for more remote parts of the province, but the flights have to be approved.
