Alberta is paying for more cataract surgeries to clear up long waiting lists in Calgary and Edmonton.
Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky announced Thursday that 1,400 additional cataract surgeries and up to 120 more corneal transplants will be performed this year. The surgeries have to be done by the end of September.
Of the new cataract procedures, 1,000 will be done in Calgary where wait-lists are the longest. Four hundred will be done in Edmonton.
These surgeries are in addition to 2,140 more cataract surgeries already funded earlier this year.
