Family devastated by 'senseless act of violence' that killed man and injured 2 others in Martindale

"James was taken from us too soon," Alyssa Feeney said, holding back tears, as she and her family asked the public to share information about a Martindale shooting in broad daylight that killed her brother, James Feeney, and left two others in hospital.

Alyssa Feeney held back tears as she read out a statement in response to her brother's death.

Surrounded by family, she asked the public to come forward with any information that could help the police in the investigation of the fatal shooting.

"James was taken from us too soon. We are devastated by this senseless act of violence," she said during a press conference on Tuesday.

"Your assistance could be crucial in bringing justice for James Feeney and closure for our family."

Feeney, a 33-year-old Calgary resident, was shot and killed in broad daylight Saturday in the northeast community of Martindale.

An autopsy completed on Monday confirmed that he died of gunshot wounds.

Two other victims were injured and taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. They remained in hospital Tuesday in stable condition.

Police said they are investigating the incident as well as a confrontation that occurred the night before in the same area that could be related to shooting.

"We do know where the victims were found, that something happened there. What the actual motive behind it is though [is] still under investigation," said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson with the CPS homicide unit.

"We continue to pursue all tips and information from the public and have been working around the clock to hold those involved responsible."

Police are also looking for the suspect vehicle — a black 2008 Acura TL — that they believe was involved in the shooting.

This was Calgary's sixth homicide of the year and the second in the community of Martindale. Police said those incidents are not connected.

Last year, there were 12 homicides between Jan. 1 and May 2.
