An inmate from the Calgary Remand Centre is in "profoundly serious" condition after an incident Friday morning, paramedics tell CBC News.
EMS was called to the institution at about 9:30 a.m. after a call from medical staff.
They found a man in his 40s, who had been seriously assaulted.
CPR and first aid were administered and the man was transported to hospital, where he remains in life-threatening condition.
It's not clear at this point what charges may apply.
Alberta Justice said in a statement an internal investigation will be conducted.
