Beakerhead, fine art and a wee bit o' drama: How to keep busy this weekend in Calgary

If Beakerhead isn't your thing, don't worry, there's a lot of things going on in the city this weekend.

If you are looking for entertainment options for the weekend, The Homestretch's Tracy Fuller has you covered.

Beakerhead

Calgary will be transformed into a giant game of Snakes and Ladders as Beakerhead — the annual mash-up of art, science and engineering — returns with five days of weird and wonderful exhibits.

We'll keep it short, since we also have a full write up of all the Beakerhead exhibits you can't miss.

But just to say, if a flaming serpent doesn't catch your fancy, not sure what will.

Eastside Studio Crawl

In the 14th annual Eastside Studio Crawl event around the neighbourhoods of Ramsay and Inglewood, there are more than 80 artists opening their studios to the community in five different locations.

The stops include Burns Visual Arts Society, Jeff De Boer Sculpture, Heritage Weavers & Spinners, Artpoint Gallery & Studios and Studio 4 Painters.

The event is open to everyone regardless of experience with visual arts. There will be hands-on demos and door prizes, as well as a chance to get to meet some of the city's most well-known artists.

Everything is free and runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Jeremy Hotz

Jeremy Hotz is a Canadian international award-winning comedian and he's typically playing for more of an adult-only audience, if you know what I mean.

Take a listen to the clip below and see what you think. Hotz is in Calgary at the Laugh Shop from Thursday to Saturday.

Apple — and we're not talking Gwyneth Paltrow's kid

Stage Theatre has an opening weekend slated to start Thursday. Apple, by Alberta Playwright Vern Thiessen, is all about Andy and Eveyln – who are husband and wife – and how they handle crisis.

Job loss, cancer, a failing marriage, there's plenty of drama to go around in this play.

Apple is on at the West Village Theatre Thursday through to next Saturday.

Apple is showing at West Village Threatre. (Sage Theatre)
