Calgarians share 1st vinyl purchases on Record Store Day
6 Calgary record stores registered as taking part in event
Record aficionados around the world are celebrating the unique appeal of vinyl today — and six Calgary stores are taking part as well.
Saturday marks the eighth annual Record Store Day and will see thousands of independently-owned record stores come together around the world to the spread the word about the culture surrounding the good old-fashioned record.
"This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store — the staff, the customers and the artists — to come together to celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently-owned stores play in their communities," say organizers in a statement on the website.
As part of the celebrations, special vinyl and CD releases have been made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists will be making special appearances around the world.
Many stores will be hosting cook-outs, body painting, meet and greets with artists, parades and performances.
There are six record stores in Calgary marking the occasion: Heritage Posters & Music, Hot Wax Records, Recordland, The Inner Sleeve, Melodiya Records and Sloth Records.
More information on specific events and offerings at each store can be found on their websites.
