A black bear has been hit and killed on the Trans-Canada Highway in Yoho National Park in B.C.
Staff from Parks Canada's Lake Louise, Yoho and Kootenay field units responded when the call came in Wednesday morning.
Few details are available, but officials say this is the first recorded highway bear death of the season.
Motorists are being warned to keep an eye out for wildlife foraging near highways ahead of the long weekend.
Officials say traffic is expected to increase along the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 93S over the weekend.
