Alberta pollster Bruce Cameron predicts spring provincial election

All signs point to a spring election in Alberta, says pollster Bruce Cameron, but don't expect the centre-left parties to come together to form a viable alternative to the Progressive Conservatives.

"The most fascinating thing will be the nomination fights," says pollster Cameron

There is a lot of anticipation in Alberta for a spring provincial election. Pollster Bruce Cameron talks about the possibility of the centre-left parties coming together to form a viable alternative to Progressive Conservatives, and whether there is any doubt Albertans will go to the polls this spring.

All signs point to a spring election in Alberta.

"I'd say 98 per cent likelihood," says pollster Bruce Cameron of Return on Insight, in a conversation with CBC Calgary anchor Rob Brown.

"There's several tranches of nominations, they will be all wrapped up by the first week of March for the PC's," he said.

Cameron pointed out it will be interesting times in Alberta politics, because "the slate will be set but the Liberals won't have a full time leader, nor will the Wildrose."

As for speculation that the centre-left parties will come together to form a cohesive alternative to the conservatives, Cameron doesn't think so.

"I think that that whole premise is a fantasy," he said.
